Genre
Genre is an extremely important aspect of the success of a film. An audience knows exactly what they will get from a particular genre therefore, they're willing to take a chance on a film if it fits into the category of film they have a passion for. For example, if someone enjoys the horror genre then they will be willing to take a chance on a film they have little/no knowledge on as they know for a fact that they will find thrill and excitement within the film - a strong sense of adrenaline. Also, romantic comedies have a stereotypically female dominance that brings a happy, uplifting ending with a strong feel good factor. Genre groups films and makes an individual film recognisable amongst the wide variety of films that are out there. This ensures that they differentiate and show originality and flair.
The producer has a purpose within the text, and that is to gain an audiences response, therefore they use certain aspects of a media text in order to gain understanding from the audience or provoke an opinion.

The producer encodes an idea in order for the audience to essentially decode something from the film. The producer carefully picks out what they want the audience to get out of this media text and what reaction they wish to receive from it - based upon the genre category it falls into.
I am in a group with Georgia and Danielle, we looked at the different genre types and which ones would work effectively. I took the importance of genre into consideration when coming to a conclusion on what genre we would use for our film opening. After doing this I analysed which genre would work most effectively and how we could manipulate it to ensure it is original and it therefore differentiates from other films within the same genre. We decided to choose the horror genre as we feel as if it will be effective. This is because we believe horror films are extremely intriguing and they also immediately entice the audience and essentially 'hook them in' to ensure they're willing to watch on further and make a positive judgement of the media text. Horror films are thrilling and exciting which makes them interesting and appealing to the intended audience. I also think that we as a group could use filming, editing, lighting and audio etc effectively to make it effective and of a high quality.

Evaluation
The Kit Kat Chunky task was an extremely effective way to introduce myself to the media course and the tools I will become familiar with throughout the next two years. For this task I was in a group with Jess and James, together we planned and created a short film based upon 'The Life of a Kit Kat Chunky.' As I previously mentioned I have had very little experience with media as a subject however, this initial task has allowed me to learn a little bit more about the subject itself and how to use the necessary tools such as Final Cut Pro. I enjoyed the experience of learning all these new skills and applying them to our final product. I used a variety of tools on Final Cut Pro including: inserting clips into a timeline, trimming clips using 'I' and 'O' as well using the blade and trim tools. Further along in the process we added audio to create the decided effect and feel of the short film and we were complete. We then uploaded it to YouTube and our project had come to a conclusion.
Storyboarding:
Before we embarked on our short film making we collated some initial ideas. This enabled us to see what direction we were going on and how we were going to achieve this. To plan the narrative we used a storyboard, which I found to be extremely helpful and useful in terms of bringing the entirety of the story together on paper before we even thought about created the final product. A storyboard enabled us to review and make any changes to our drafted story.
Final Cut Pro:
Some of the tools I used on Final Cut Pro were extremely useful in completing our short film to a good quality and ensure it was of high standard - at least for our initial introduction to the editing software. I think that I successfully contributed to the final product of our Kit Kat Chunky short film. I enjoyed the planning, filming and editing process as I knew that I was working towards an end goal. I am proud with what we have created and it has given me an initial step in order to support the film opening I will be creating in November. I am confident that I now have the necessary knowledge to embark on this project.

Introduction
I have very limited experience with Media Studies as I didn't take it as a subject at GCSE, however I am extremely intrigued and interested in the study of media sources. Especially looking into different aspects of it as well as coming to a conclusion as to why something has been done and what affect it gives. Although I may not be experienced within the subject I have been running my own blog for around a year now to give myself experience within creating content and writing for a purpose. I am excited to see where these two years take me and what particular content I manage to create and what goals I accomplish within this time. I am extremely interested in pursuing a media based career path - in particular journalism therefore, I strongly believe this will be the perfect initially stepping stone to reaching my end goal. I am looking forward to learning new things along the way and consequently, incorporating them within my blog to ensure I track my progress and record my achievements.
